When someone you love decides to enter a Day Treatment or Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), it can bring a mix of relief, hope, and uncertainty. You want to help, but you may not know exactly how. Understanding your role during this critical time can make a meaningful difference in your loved one’s recovery.
Day Treatment, also known as a Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), is a structured, intensive level of outpatient care. Clients typically attend programming five days a week for six or more hours per day, receiving therapy, medication management, and skill-building support — all while returning home each evening.
Supporting a loved one in Day Treatment does not mean solving their problems for them. The most effective support looks like this:
